Alma De Santiago 1Jane Bunnett
00:00 / 08:44

Santiago has inherited his sire's phenotype and quiet, calm temperament yet he has too certain delightful traits of his dam. He is two weeks older than his brother, Apollo, and when they were young was the leader of the two colts although never dominant with his brother.

Santiago was scheduled to go back into training last year but this has been put on hold due to Covid. For now its lunging out in the field until life begins again.

Santiago's name means 'Soul of Santiago'. He was first considered as a stallion prospect but lack of funds to take for frozen semen, and our halt on breeding, led to the decision to geld him in 2014. No regrets as his life home is with us and he is the family horse for our next generation of children - three so far! He is very suitable for this role with his  affectionate, patient temperament and always unfazed by anything presented to him.

2014-2015, Santiago and his brother Apollo went to the Avon Riding Centre for the Disabled (an RDA centre) where they did their basic training with international trainer, Gina Porter. Both horses had a wonderful year of work experience but moved on when the centre had to downsize in 2015. Santiago went on lease in Dorset and came home in May 2016. His time out from the herd was invaluable and a learning curve for him even if he was very excited to be home.
